First Projects - Coasters!!

Gabe MADE these!!  I am so ridiculously proud.
He cut  some maple we can cut down into thin biscuits and used a wood burning stamp to put the initials on them.
I love them!! He is taking orders.

Today, there were two kind men and a giant tractor here to help Jason take down a fallen maple that was hovering over our house.

I would not have considered such a drastic move from the city, here to Beckwtih, if I hadn't known that we'd be held up by loving brethren, just next door.

if ye have love one to another. "

National Art Gallery - mom post

We have been so blessed to have a very sweet French tutor this year.  God is so good.
He meets our needs in ways we can not even fathom.  He answers prayers that are yet unspoken.

Rosie was an answer to my prayers.

The kids spent most of Saturday at the National Art Gallery with Rosie, exploring the Monet exhibit ....  eating chocolate fondue... speaking French.... more fondue.  The kids were totally enthralled by the entire experience.

Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
Rosie, you are an inexpressible gift.

Getting better...

Granola for the people

Gabe says I have to use pink type if I want to use his blog or people will think I am HIM and he is totally disgusted at the very prospect of that....

3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup almonds, chopped or not chopped
1 cup Shredded Coconut
Salt - just a bit
1/3 cup vegetable oil - anything really, canola, olive oil is a bit...olive-y. If I am feeling generous, I use melted butter.
1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
1/4 cup apple juice or can juice or even just water ot wet the ingredients
1 tsp vanilla

So really, you just throw everything into a bowl and smoosh it around to mix it up.  You can add or take away pretty much any of the ingredients except the oil and oats and it still works out well.

Put the lot on a parchment lined pan, the biggest pan you have so you can spread it out, and bake at 300 for 60-75 min.  You can turn the granola half way through, but I usually forget.  Then LEAVE it in the oven for a few hours to dry out.  Then, eat it.

Reading Week - Mom Post

I don't follow many blogs.  I actually only follow two.  And maybe pioneer woman once and while...

I got the idea for reading week from Annie Kate's site.  We are preparing for (another) move and I need some time to pack and get ready and the kids needed a change of routine.

I've been stock piling books for a few months and saving for just this occasion!!  SO here is reading week: Daily piano practice, French lessons and Band practice are still on for the week, but other than that, they just have to finish their respective bins of awesomeness by Friday.  They need to keep track of what they've read everyday, just so I can see how it's going....

I love it.

I am doing this every year.

Cole has to read the book of Matthew in its entirety, and the first unit of the herpetology text.
The rest of the books need to be finished by Friday.

Gabe has to read the book of Matthew, too.
He has most of Chasing the Wind read already, the rest need to be done by Friday, too.

Swept up in the crowd... A mom post about politics

For someone who voted conservative and had (and still have) LOTS of pretty discordant things to say about the Liberal campaign.... Oh my goodness, Mrs. Trudeau is pretty lovely!  The hat?  Ya, I really love the hat!!

After being almost squashed to death by a herd of teenagers at the war memorial, who were trying to get a glimpse of Trudeau, here is a picture of my dad talking to Mdme Sophie, as she will henceforth be called in this house.

I feel a bit like the Tragically Hip song... "Yeah, I can get behind anything"

It's hard to keep your convictions while in the onslaught of Trudeaumania.  I had meant to ask Trudeau, "What about income splitting?  What about the value of the family unit as a working institution? Tax relief for small businesses?  What about gender-selection laws for unborn girls?"

Tricky stuff....
